Meet Janise

“I am not a politician, just a neighbor who thinks this district deserves someone who will bring people together. I will work hard to earn your vote.”

-Janise O’Neil Robinson

About Janise

I’m a teacher, wife and mom who grew up in Taylor MI and now live in Brownstown. I was raised by a working mother and a dad who had a life-changing injury at the age of 24 which caused him to be disabled and made life challenging for our family.

After my father’s accident, my Mom worked full-time in an office which helped with expenses and insurance for our family, but it just wasn’t enough. My mother wrote a letter to Governor George Romney, explaining our family’s financial circumstances. Governor Romney and his staff researched and helped my Mom & Dad find additional financial support under a state program called the Second Injury Fund.

I learned from our family’s experience that people can adapt to life with their disabilities when they work hard and have the support they need to effectively manage their lives. This experience led me to a career as a special education teacher and consultant in the Taylor public schools. For almost 30 years, I have worked hard to improve our education system by fighting tirelessly to secure services that support teachers, students and families.

I am running for office because I believe Downriver and Monroe County deserve a leader who is ready to listen, advocate, and fight for every resident of House District 28. I promise to listen and learn from citizens in this district, focus on what will improve our community, and work together to better our little corner of Michigan. Our grassroots campaign is powered by everyday people who believe that representatives should work for the benefit of all our residents. I am not a politician, just a neighbor who thinks this district deserves someone who will bring people together, and I will work hard to earn your vote.

Priorities

Improving Education
During my teaching career, I fought to support schools with free student meals and increased per-pupil funding. I will continue to fight for funds to improve our public schools.

Defending Reproductive Rights
I consider myself pro-child, pro-woman, and pro-choice, and I will support and trust women to make these decisions with their partners, families, and medical staff – not politicians.

Protecting Gun Rights & Public Safety
I believe in the rights of individuals to own guns for hunting and recreation. But weapons of war pose a growing risk to public safety. We need to protect our community from this growing threat.

Funding Local Infrastructure
I will fight for federal and state funds that are available to help restore our local roads, highways and bridges.

Cleaning Up our Local Environment
I will fight to secure federal dollars to help clean up our local rivers and create a cleaner, safer future for our community.

Supporting Workers’ Rights
I believe workers deserve a fair wage, good benefits and a chance to retire with dignity after a career of hard work and service to their community.

Connecting Our Community
I know how to connect community members to solve problems. I’ll work to find solutions that increase access to health care, child care and senior care for families in need.
