Meet Janise
I’m a teacher, wife, and mom who grew up in Taylor and now live in Brownstown. I was raised by a working mother and a dad who had a life-changing injury at the age of 24. I learned from our family’s experience that people can adapt to life with disabilities when they work hard and have the support they need from friends, family and community. This experience led me to a career as a special education teacher and advocate for kids in the Taylor public schools.
For almost 30 years, I have worked hard to improve our education system by fighting tirelessly to secure services that support teachers, students and families. I am running for office because I believe this district deserves a leader who is ready to listen, advocate, and show up every day to fight for all residents.
Priorities
IMPROVING EDUCATION
In my 30 years of teaching, I fought to support schools with free student meals and increased per-pupil funding. I will continue to fight for funds to improve our public schools.
SUPPORTING WORKERS’
RIGHTS
I believe workers deserve a fair wage, good benefits and a chance to retire with dignity after a career of hard work and service to their community.
DEFENDING REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
I consider myself pro-child, pro-woman, and pro-choice, and I will support and trust women to make these decisions with their partners, families, and medical staff – not politicians.
